Our Story
Arber Greenhouses Ltd. has been family owned and operated since 1981, serving Central Alberta and beyond. In 1981 the greenhouse was built on the former site of a horse farm. The big green barn was converted to a retail and work area for the greenhouse business. Following a spectacular fire, on a cold January day in 1984, that burned the barn the present building was erected and presently serves as the sales and display areas for gifts and garden accessories.
Featured is a 30,000+ square foot greenhouse located on a 100-acre site, growing annuals, perennials, tropicals, poinsettias, trees and shrubs.
Since the beginning the greenhouse has been open year round with great selections of houseplants and seasonal plants such as poinsettias and Easter lilies. Spring is the busiest and most exciting time of year with the full range of bedding plants, specialty plants for containers, perennials, trees/shrubs and garden supplies. Arber has always prided itself on the vast range of bedding plants that it grows and on the widest selection of perennials in central Alberta.
The Arber family extends to our staff - we are delighted to have several well-qualified employees who are happy to offer assistance when you need it with expert advice as well as friendly customer service.

Thirty Years of Giving Back
Berta Briggs, founder of the business, has always been a strong supporter of both the community and the Alberta Greenhouse industry, assuming leadership roles in 4H for many years; providing educational opportunities for local students, staff, and the community at large; fundraising for organizations such as the Devonian Botanical Gardens, the library, and Habitat for Humanity.
Berta is the recent recipient of the Herb Knodel Award, given to a retired grower for outstanding service to the Alberta greenhouse industry (read article from Greenhouse Canada).
In 1999 Berta was the Alberta finalist in the Impact on the Local Economy award, for the Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year awards program; she received the "Friend of 4-H” award for the West Central Alberta region in 2001, and was honoured with the Paul Harris Fellow Recognition by the Rotary Club of Wetaskiwin in 2008. Berta has served as a national judge for Communities in Bloom since 2000 and has traveled extensively across Canada, Europe and the U.S. in her role.
The family tradition continues – Berta’s daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Jeff, have been a part of the business since 2003. Andrea brings training and experience in agricultural business and Jeff has his diploma in horticulture; so the future of Arber Greenhouses is exciting and in good hands.
Great things are happening at the greenhouse. There is a renewed focus on quality and up to date plant materials and we now offer a wide range of unique gift ideas. Any time of year is a good time to visit Arber Greenhouses.
